Wordpress+Social Network=Wordpress MU

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Wordpress MU stands for Wordpress Multi-User, and is the same software which runs Wordpress.com. Once installed, it allows you to easily create a network of blogs from that single domain. Generally, webmasters would not do that on their own, but to create a social network for a particular topic. For example, I own the domain name: http://honestaffiliatenetwork.com and I want all of my fellow honest affiliate marketers to create a blog on my site, network and profit together.

I then install Wordpress MU onto my domain and people can start to register and create their own blogs. It keeps us connected. If all of the blogs created are about a group of similar topics (ie: honest affiliate marketing) then our site and each individual blog will most likely gain a high ranking in the search engines. This will help us all greatly, whether we want to use that to dominate our market or to use our high ranking to increase the ranking of our other sites.

According to the Wordpress MU website here, WPMU is ideal for: blog networks, universities, magazines, niche-specific blog groups. I think it could also be used for non-professional related topics. For example, families could create a main family WPMU site, so each family member can have his/her own blog on the site and stay connected.

Features Include:

  • Everything WordPress does - at wordpress.com
  • Scaling to tens of millions of pageviews per day
  • Unlimited users and blogs on your single domain
  • Different permissions on different blogs; to allow certain users certain capabilities

Interesting Facts About WPMU:

  • The code that makes up the WPMU software is 99% the same as the code for the regular wordpress software
  • Features and advances in technology for wordpress or WPMU will both benefit each project
  • Wordpress is used by millions of people, companies and establishments; from the New York Times to Yahoo.com

PS - I am going to install this today and create a visual tutorial for those who don’t know how to setup something like this! Check back later ok!!!

Hey awesome Holly! This sounds very great. I’m glad you posted this. I’ve been a little curious about it, and it will be great to see your
tutorial on it. I think you mentioned this before to me, and I looked
at it, but didn’t dive into it…there’s a lot going on, as you know.

Thanx again, and I’ll look for the tutorial later.

    Take Care Holly

I have my poems and stories blog with multiple users, but that’s not WordPress MU. I do have some blogs on WordPress MU blogs though, as part of my membership of Traffic Kahuna. If I only had time to post on them all!

By the way - if you are planning to create that WordPress MU project, let me know! Sounds like a great idea!

That really sounds like a fascinating concept. I find it kind of amazing how little I know in the world of blogging and Internet Marketing.

If you get that project going and I end up doing affiliate marketing, I’ll be glad to join y’all!

This is good stuff here. I had no idea that Wordpress had this type of application. Although I am positive this is going to cause me to lose my focus for a moment, I must investigate this.

Too many ideas are running through my head. Thanks Holly,….I think! LOL!
