Who is Holly Mann?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

  • 25-year-old single-mom of a 3 year old boy (originally from Wisconsin, USA)
  • Expat living in northern Thailand (for the past several years - came here when I had NOTHING and built up from there)
  • Became a Christian at 14 years old (was not brought up in church)
  • Youngest of 3 children; my brother is Kerry Mann Jr. and he is 27 years old (he has 4 kids - his wife recently had triplets) , sister Melissa, 29, has one amazing child, David Jr.
  • Prior to working online I was a soldier in the U.S. Army - a journalist and photographer.
  • After the Army (foot surgery and some injuries) I went to Baghdad to work as a civil contractor for KBR and then DHL. I was there 6 months after the war started and stayed there for 6 months. I was the ONLY female American and the youngest woman working for DHL at the airport.
  • Other past jobs: janitor at a mental health facility cleaning bathrooms, laundry room girl at Exel Inn Hotel, Applebees Hostess (I was horrible at this job), McDonald’s Cashier, Pet Store clerk, Security guard at a paper factory (Shocked they hired me) and lastly - A Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Sales Woman (I was also absolutely horrendous at this job because I am not a natural sales person and only sold two of these pricey vacuums to two relatives!)
  • Hobbies: traveling, helping others, working online, spending time with my angel Josh and just trying to appreciate the little things in life. Being in Iraq really opened my eyes and made me appreciate people, life and every day we have here.
  • My Vision: Although I am only one person, I would like to change Internet Marketing. I want the so-called guru’s who promise people unrealistic and unfeasible attainments to be put out of business. Honest people can group together to truly help others to get ahead.
  • ONE thing I’ve truly learned about people and life (since I began working online almost four years ago) is that helping others is the most rewarding gift. Not just because of any financial profits, but because of the lasting impact, inspiration and knowledge that is shared and gained by it all.
  • I created this blog to keep all my friends, family, ebook buyers and anyone else who is interested - up to date with what is going on in my life, in the Internet Marketing world and to network. Thank you for reading!

    Hi Holly

If you don’t mind I want to ask you something. It is very personal and nothing to do with online venture.
I have read several times about your true story from different websites.
But you never told us about your husband—who is he,what he does etc..

If I asked something wrong then just delete the post.

    Thank you

    Hi Manidip,
That’s ok if your question is personal. Thank you for asking it. Over the past few years I’ve become painfully honest and try to be open about everything. So to answer your question my friend Manidip - Josh’s dad is a poor Burmese farmer who was living in Pai Thailand (my next door neighbor) when I lived there years ago (right after working in Iraq).

I became extremely close to his family - mostly his adorable little sister Nuu. So many of the Burmese kids in Thailand have families who escaped a terrible war in Burma, and their parents are usually working long hours either farming or doing construction. The kids really fend for themselves and not many of them attend school. So my new best friend Nuu was over at my home everday. I learned a lot about the people and because of her - I met Josh’s dad.

We were together for a while but separated (never ever married) after I found out I was pregnant. I know that doesn’t sound good but the details aren’t something I should put on here. Due to such severe cultural differences (ie: you’re either together and married or you’re apart and not seeing each other) we have not seen each other since. I want Josh to know that his father is a hard-working good person and that he lives back in Burma now. I would never say anything bad about him. And as far as the future goes - I’ll just have to pray about it.

I have seen many single parents in the states (friends of mine) who were so frightened to even mention the word “dad” to their little children because maybe the child never knew him or grew up with him. I didn’t want that to happen with Josh so I have been honest and real with him. He has been fine and actually never asks me - I’m sure he will later. If any single parents read this and have any thoughts or advice that would be great to share with the world. :) Thank you for your honest real question Manidip.

    Hi Holly,

You are a great resource and your candor in all things internet marketing is much appreciated.

I think your Content King article finder is a great tool. I notice it is not available for purchase because it is being upgraded or something. After having tried the trial version, and really seeing value in it, I have a couple of questions…

    1) When will the registered version be available for purchase?
    2) Is the source code available for purchase for personal modification?

    Wishing continued success to you,
    Paul

    Manidip,
Thank you so much. I agree with you - that no matter what happens - money or no money online - I will always be grateful for getting to know you, Davin, Craig and so many, many others. You are an inspiration. Now I feel really bad because you emailed me and I hardly had time to offer my help. :( I know how serious you are about pursuing your venture online -and I will try to make more time for you and would like to make you a website too. Josh is yelling in my ear at the moment - but tonight if he relaxes for a second I can then put a new article on this website of mine here. I want to write about finding a niche, creating a niche website and profiting from it. YOU gave me the idea for that you know! Now that this blogsite is redesigned (I bought a new template from Brian Gardener, he is a very talented wordpress theme designer) - now I have much more space to add lots of content. Oh lastly, if you ever want to write a few articles on here you can as well. Take care and thank you!

    Hi Holly:

I brought your book in 2005 and it was refreshing to read about a young woman (and single mother) being successful. Frankly, you inspired me do some of the same. Periodically, I would looked you up on-line to see how you are doing. I now have six websites and have the foundation to launch a very good internet business.

However, that I not why I finally decided to write to you. The reason is in response to the posts about your son and his father. One of my focuses is on separated-fathers, that is, fathers who do not live with their children. I have an e-book on this subject - particularly to challenge and encourage these men. It is called “ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN: HOPE FOR SEPARATED FATHERS WHO WANT TO BE GOOD FATHERS”

I am going to send you a copy even though your reality is different from the “typical American scenario” that is discussed in the book. I believe the Godly truths that are in “ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN” will be helpful to all men and women who find themselves in this situation.

For anyone that would like to get this very inexpensive e-book please go to my website http://www.gilpublications.com or http://www.rfathers.org.

    All the best,
    Akili Kumasi

By the way - Holly, could you please change my username from gillpublications to gilpublications - I mistakenly typed “L” twice when I registered. Thanks.

    Hi Holly,

You earn my salute. I feel so ashamed comparing your plight with mine. Given the situation when you arrived Chiang Mai, it really take guts and motivations to be able to succeed in internet marketing. In comparison to my broadband access, I should really reflect on the time wasted on unnecessary stuffs.

As a matter of fact, I had mixed thoughts about online business when I purchased ebooks from other “gurus”. They merely threw out whole chunks of facts and informations w/o telling you where to start from. Yea, I was information overload. I also brought your ebook last year, but I didnt really look into it due to coming exams and other commitments, and also from past experiences in IM.

After reading your coverage in this site, I am inspired to start IM and venture into this business again. Hope it doesn’t trouble you if I need guidance. Wish you and Josh in the pink of health. Thank you.

    To everyone’s success.

Hi. I wasn’t sure where to put this comment so I chose the most general threat I could think of. I’m curious to see what others think about this idea.

Holly, I was just thinking about what you said earlier (not on this blog) regarding funny little stories. The problem is - where to put them? I mean, if you have a blog about rabbit food you are not exactly going to put up a post “one time I was in a grocery store and this man came out of nowhere and bought me ice cream and walked off …” or whatever.

So where do we put these? Unless we have a “funny stories” blog, it doesn’t really fit in.

My idea was - what if you add a category or section of your blog where people can post things like this? It could be something like “Funny stories and strange things that have happened to you.”

That’s where we could tell the stories about the time we saw a ghost, or almost got struck by lightening, or ran into a high school friend on the beach in Egypt - or whatever (I’m just making this stuff up. I’ve never been to Egypt.)

So that’s my idea for today. Bye for now!
