Today Facebook Releases Custom Profile URLs

Posted on 12. Jun, 2009 by Holly in Facebook

Facebook has announced that today at midnight you will be able to get your own Facebook Custom URL. For example, www.Facebook.com/YourName.  And, you will want to hurry over to get your custom URL before someone else takes it – as similar names may have a lot of prospective takers.

Facebook has stated, they are taking measures to prevent Cybersquatting of names. Basically, you are not allowed to take the name of a celebrity or well-known person, trademark, or company name – unless you are that person or owner of the trademark. A lot of times people do this to receive traffic, and to spam others. Or, they buy a name with the intent to sell it at a later date, to the rightful owner. Stay away from all of that trouble!

If you have a registered trademarked name or product, you can contact Facebook through this form so they will not let others register it. Don’t forget to head over and get your Custom Profile URL tonight at Midnight: http://www.facebook.com/username/
