Tonight, we had an amazing webinar from The Authority Site Center I wanted to share with Holly’s readers. I felt it might inspire some of you. We discussed what it really takes to have a great long term business in Internet Marketing. While there was tons of unbelievable great information shared, their was one thing that thoroughly remained important. It was great, as I need a little wake up call myself every once in a while to regain my perspective purpose.

What do you think that might have been? Is everybody really cut out for the internet marketing lifestyle, and long term success? More importantly, are you going about deserving your success honestly? Obviously, many people that do acquire a fair amount of success with internet marketing aren’t. But, if they aren’t, how long do you think their success will really last? It can only be a matter of time until mother karma will catch up with them. Don’t you think?

While many people might be thinking it’s research, drive, commitment, and all the rest of these very important aspects, it isn’t the real answer. Sure, these are all very important factors! But, the one big thing that it really takes is PASSION. You really need to love what you are doing. You need to be excited about what you are building, and build it passionately. Remember, this is something that you want to build that could very well last you the rest of your life.

Why try and build a business that’s only haph-hazard, and, are we truly giving it our all? These are important things to think about. Is Internet Marketing going to be your hobby, or are you making it your business? It’s something that we must all think about from time to time, if we are to remain focused and moving ahead with it.

In Internet Marketing we must remember that there really aren’t any quick fixes. If you are a quick fix hound looking to get rich overnight…forget it. It’s not about that! Sure, you might make a few quick bucks here and there quickly with some methods, but, is that really going to lead you to a long term successful business?

All of us must think long term if we are to build a viable internet property. It takes work, and a lot of it. We can’t shy away from the work aspects of it. Instead, we must EMBRACE how much hard work it takes. It’s only then that we can truly appreciate what we have been building to make it a very successful business.

I felt I’d show a little video which we were pointed towards in tonight’s webinar. It’s a very good short video, but, it helps people to truly understand what it takes to be successful. I hope you enjoy it. Embrace your passion…

Take care guys,

Great post Davin. As you know, I’ve been on this “focus” kick for about a month and a half and it’s totally changed my thinking. Looking at this as a business instead of an extension of my online life totally changed things for me.

We have to want to do it, be wiling to work for it, and have pure motives we are chasing, that’s the only way things will last.

I agree completely. I’ve also felt the need to work on my focus, and I find myself having a much easier time moving from “make money online” to “have an online business”.

It’s amazing what some focus and strategic thinking will get you.

Great post and one of the best videos I have EVER seen on how to succeed in business. I was particularly impressed that the “serve” element was included (the most important in my opinion, but overlooked 90% of the time). And I LOVED the part about mothers! :)) LOL!

Okay now regarding passion - I love Internet Marketing and I know it makes a difference. Not only that, but it makes a big difference whether I am interested in a particular niche or not. I have noticed it STATISTICALLY - interest = money, boredom = nothing. But that is not necessarily the case for those who have enough self-discipline to plug away at something which bores them to death but which is high-income.

And focus - yes, that has been my new strategy lately. As much as possible I try to stick to a specific strategy and plan of action and carry it through, one step at a time. I try not to get distracted off into all of the new ideas, emails, suggestions, and - yes - eBooks! But I note them down or save them for later and continue my plan (unless I fully realize it is a bad plan! :)

Right now I am working on becoming a Giant Squid on Squidoo for one of my niches, which is someone with 50 great Squidoo Lenses (submission deadline 30 Sept!) So I am plugging away at that almost full time, learning how to make better Squidoo lenses, joining the forum … focusing most of my attention on that one activity so I can do my best.

I will see where this gets me but I think its a lot better than dipping my toes in a bunch of new dabble-dos.

Yes, thanx for the comments guys.

Joe, yes it’s incredible what you have accomplished in the last little while, it’s awesome. I’m very happy for you, and your a great marketer Joe…don’t let anybody tell you different!

Kevin, yes truly, I really do believe you have a much better grip on things when you make it less about the money. Thinking of everything as building blocks towards a long term business is the way to go. It seems to become so much more, if you can learn to think of things that way.

Anna..Yeah, I thought that was a great little video. It really is funny how many people forget about the “serve” part. I think it’s the reason perhaps that some people and marketers end up making a “great” impression and enjoy longevity. It goes back to karma I guess..what comes around..goes around eventually.

I completely agree with you on the “niches” that you enjoy as compared to building around something you simply think will make you money. There has been many of times I’ve ended up saying..”What the hell was I thinking!” I mean how much can I possibly write about “tankless water heaters”…..don’t ask, LOL.I found out something very interesting about Squidoo traffic the other day if you are interested. If you are, shoot me an email. It’s to long to explain here, but, I’m quite sure it would interest you with all of those lenses you are creating.

    Thanx again…Davin

Davin, thank you for sharing starting this thread, sharing the video, and for the others as well who have commented. Being new to building my Internet Marketing business, it makes me feel good to see that some of my realizations are the same as ya’ll, the seasoned pros! Especially being in the beginning stages, I’ve found that making an outline and haviing a plan is continually beneficial in staying on one path. Ok, so my path has a few “pocket parks” along the way where I allow myself to plant a seed as I learn things. But my secret to resisting the temptation to get too many projects started, is the same secret I’ve found that helps me not buy every book I am interested in on Half.com or Amazon….there I use the “wish list” feature, where I save the book. Once the immediate feeling to buy it has passed, I can relax knowing the idea is safely stored in the list. Well, when I see a program or product that I think is a good one, I look at it online, then tuck the web address safely away in one of my favorites folders, with the reassurance that I will NEVER run out of ideas on what to do next! As far as staying pure in my motives, and not being tempted by “sure fire” products/niches, even though I am a grown adult, if the product or program is not one I would tell my family about, whom I respect very much, then I would never consider it. It’s not that I feel I need this, but every once in a while the old “make money monster” catches my eye and this way I can say, back off, and never miss a beat!

    Until next time…Annie

    Davin,

Great post! I have a great passion for success in the business. One, I like to win at everything I do anyway. Two, making money from my home without worrying about communiting, gas prices, or anything else is a great attraction for me.

Bigger than all of this is the fact that it really fits into my lifestyle as a home body that just wants to be with my family. I really enjoy watching my children grow up and being there all the time for picking them up from school and all their different events.

I am focus and will make this happen. It is not a dream, but a passion that I must fulfill.

    Thanks for the motivation!

This is very very smart. You will avoid a lot of trouble and many pitfalls just by following that decision.

Hi Anna, and thank you for your comment above. Earlier, after you visited and commented on my blog I was thrilled! And, I have a follower…yippee! This last week I’ve been an “evacuee” of Hurricane Ike, so though I am doing a tiny bit, working is not really what’s on my mind, until we can get back home. I shared a bit on my blog about the experience.

I’m looking forward to getting back in the work mode and learning how to back link to your blog/sites and other peoples. Loving the learning.

    Until next time…
