Secret to Internet Marketing Success – One Simple Thing

Posted by in Dreams & Goals, Holly Mann, Make Money

My four years working online have taught me that a big aspect of being successful is…

having perseverance.

Perseverance. A steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

When you work from home, set your own hours, and hold the weight of the family’s income on your shoulders – it is vital that you stay focused and persevere through all obstacles. I’ve been in the military, and I’ve worked overseas and held positions of employment for other people. Persevering through those situations (for me personally) is not the same. When you work for yourself solely – persevering takes on a whole new meaning.

Internet Marketing and working online  – is extremely rewarding and freeing. It provides you with the freedom to be home, to not have to listen to a boss telling you what to do, to be able to create a future for yourself and your family.

It’s not only rewarding though – it is a constant mental challenge as well. It can be tough to multi-task, try to balance home and work, manage and update websites and handle additional hurdles that pop up left and right. I have had tens of thousands of issues with websites, html, css and related aspects. Every time a problem arises or an error occurs within a site – I check for a solution on Google.com. I browse websites, forums and work out the problem. Sometimes problems arise in pairs, or one after another after another and so on. Just do NOT give up. Ask someone for help, take a break, go for a walk or run – and then return to face the problem and solve it.

Over the past six months, my life has thrown a lot of obstacles my way. If this is your current situation – my advice is to try to look at it from a different viewpoint. In the scheme of things, in the big picture of your life – this event may be happening to teach you something or to strengthen you for a future endeavor. Personally, when I look at the obstacles in that way, they don’t deeply bother me. They may be extremely serious – but they don’t stop me from persevering.

For example, over the past six months, this is the series of events I’ve experienced:

  1. August 2008 – Thailand: Break-ins into my “dream home,” and another move to a new place. Threats from previous owner, blackmail and extortion to try to make money off of me and my situation. I was being threatened by the people who set me up and broke into my home in Thailand – and they knew where my new home in Thailand was. I was visiting the states when the situation escalated with the threats – and I decided in our safety and best interest – to not return to Thailand. I left/lost all our belongings. Brand new furniture, $2500 Sony Vaio computer. I realized that money isn’t everything and the material belongings should not be attachments at all. Then to lose such items will not cause a deep pain or sense of loss. Life goes on.
  2. September 2008 – USA:  I moved into a place in the states. I tried to turn on the gas service for my new place here – and get the service in my name. Turns out someone was already using my Social Security number in Arizona and had their service turned on. I found out in 2002 someone took my Social Security number and got a home loan/mortgage with it. Now it may be difficult for me to purchase a home – but not impossible. Lesson – Be careful with your personal information and documents.
  3. Current Situation – my son has a contagious skin virus and cannot go to school so he is home with me full time. It’s very difficult to work but it’s made me appreciate everything more. He’s actually had it for 7 months but it’s now become very contagious and spreading (on his own body).

So, if you are struggling to stay focused with all of your obstacles – and ready to give up – here are some things I’ve learned…

  • Step away from the situation to either take a break, try to figure out what is happening and what you can do to fix it, talk to someone – either online or offline
  • Get help – with whatever the problem is – from a friend, family member or someone online who can assist
  • If you are just totally overwhelmed – get out and do something for yourself, something you enjoy – or relax, take a nap, watch a movie, etc.

If you want to be successful working online – the main key to success I believe is having the ability to persevere. I think everyone has it – but not everyone uses it. If you truly are passionate about working online – no matter how complicated it may seem, how overwhelmed you may feel, Never Ever Give Up!

The interesting thing about you Holly is that you not only have to overcome obstacles online but you overcome them in your personal life! You are definitely inspiring, and I agree, if you keep a correct perspective and look at everything in the scope of the “big picture”, things just don’t seem to be that “big” after all. I call it an “ascended perspective”.
And yes, I too have lost all of my belongings…it is hard as it feels like a loss..it is good advice to try not to form attachments to material things.
I hope your son gets better soon. Is there anything the doctors can do for it or does he just have to ride it out? Poor thing.
I will be praying for you…not just praying but calling things into existence that we don’t see…our words are very powerful and God wants us to use them…just something I am learning. :-)
I am glad your spirits are good and thanks for the post…hope to talk to you soon… :-D

Holly, it may sound odd, but there is something comforting about seeing you make a post…it let’s us know you are ok! I’m in the middle of a study on the book of Job, and what you have explained that you have experienced sounds very similiar to what Job experienced. From what you write and express, I feel you are in the right place to deal with all your challanges.

So sorry for what Josh is experiencing. At least it sounds like you have found something medicine wise to help him heal soon.

    Be safe!

    Until next time…Annie

    Hi Holly,

Wow, you have been thru alot in recent history.

I like your attitude and I agree that almost always perserverance is key. I use to have that attidude with ALL things however, I’ve changed a little. Sometimes it is for the best to walk away…like you getting away from Thailand. Too bad you had to experience that situation.

For example, I resigned from a job in 4/07 that I had worked at for many years. I had that no quit/perservere attitude but finallly did quit. My only regret now is that I didn’t quit years earlier.

Overwhelmingly though, I agree and admire your perservere attitude and message and am inspired and grateful for it.

I’ve made three commmissions thus far off my fairly new site…based on Honest Riches. I’m starting a 2nd site.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Josh!

    Sincerely, Link

Amazing what you have had to overcome recently. You hit it right on with perseverance. It is the key to most things in life. I’ve found that no one is going to hand you anything. You need to stay faithful and diligent in all you do.
    Blessings,
    Brandon

    Hello Holly

Good luck with getting yourself back on track!

Sounds like you have had more than your fair share of cr*p over the last few months x

I learned a long time ago to .. be a pebble.. try to let it wash over you.. keep focused.. although at times you feel like so much water washes over you.. you end up as a piece of grit rather than a smooth pebble! LOL! However, then you end up in an oyster,.. then you get to be a pearl! Ho hum..:)

Anyway, I am sure you will overcome all thrown your way.. :)

I bought your ebook a few years ago.. it was the first ebook on internet markting that didn’t make me cringe… most stuff I had read previously was trash.. Honest Riches was informative and inspirational.. so thank you for that. x

I believe what you give out you get back ten fold.. (and I’m no wishy washy spiritual sandle wearing yogurt knitter..! ) But I think it is true.. fundamental goodness always triumphs.. it is just a bit difficult at times to reconcile that with day to day life..

Anyway, good look with all you choose and best wishes to you and your son x

Sue (now found you on Twitter.. It has become a guilty addiction for me! :) )

Thank you Sue! What great advice you have! I really appreciate it. And you said that you had the first version of HR – I will email you the newest version. And about Twitter – so many people are addicted to it – I am not (not yet anyway) but I will look for you on there! Take care.

I just wanted to post an update. After trying every possible treatment, I took my son to church and had people pray for him. The skin rash went away within two weeks – totally gone!!! SO happy!
