Life in the Thai Lane

Yesterday evening I drove to the store with my son Josh. I pulled up to an intersection so that I could turn right and I had the green arrow so I could proceed. As I was half-way through my turn and almost free and clear - a large truck zoomed towards the passenger side of my vehicle at a very high rate of speed. I was terrified at the thought of it hitting us (especially with it being on Josh's side of the car) but thankfully he was able to slow down enough to spare us our lives. There was another truck driving next to him, also going extremely fast and heading right towards us. Turns out the guy who almost hit us had a green light too and the light meters were off - displaying the same light for the both of us. That was pretty horrific and the same thing happened to my mom a few weeks ago.

More car drama - went to the gas station a few days ago and the gas station attendant could not open up the valve to put gas in the vehicle. It was completely stuck and closed shut with a metal pin (the thickness of a nail) holding it closed. In Thailand there are attendants who fill the tanks up and the guy was astonished because he had filled it up so many times in the past month. So I had to drive off and make it home on E. When I got home I pulled out a screwdriver (after searching for a better solution) and pried it open and broke the metal piece off! :) So now it's open and no longer locks! Hope for a nice safe week of driving.

hmmm, interestingly enough Holly. I remember “way back when” (yes I know I’m getting old, but age is only in the mind!) I used to play with a show band who had that had went to Thailand for a tour and they played for 6 or 7 weeks in Bangkok. I remember asking Guy(one of the guys in the band) what it was like driving in Thailand and he replied, “You can’t drive in Thailand, you’d end up dead in a couple of weeks!” Maybe that’s just in Bangkok, I’m not sure, but make sure your careful out there!!

    Take care,
    Davin

Hey Davin! Yes it is really extremely dangerous driving here. I was thinking back to when I lived in BKK before and I think it is much less dangerous there because the traffic is so backed up all the time that you are driving like snails. Here the people drive VERY fast - like maniacs. They sometimes (almost everyday) drive really fast, zoom across three lanes and cut you off then slow down so you must slam on the breaks and almost hit them. The people dont really look around before changing lanes!!! I’ll just pray for an army of angels to protect us and everyone else on the road when we’re out!!!

    Hi Holly

May be you feel it is bitter to hear but please do not misunderstand me as I am really one of a well wisher of you.

You have lived your life not to a great extent but to some extent and do not forget that Josh had not lived to any extent yet in this beautifull world. So please be carefull of yourself and specially that Little champ. If possible forget driving and let us and josh live a tension free life.

May God bless you all the time.
