How to Stay Motivated through the Madness

Posted on 07. May, 2009 by Holly in Productivity

If you work at home, you know the importance of staying motivated. Your success is directly related to your level of motivation and ability to focus and follow through. Since you are your own boss, you need to keep yourself in gear. There’s a lot of pressure on you to succeed if your entire income and survival of your family is at stake. With the tough economic problems, working from home is an excellent option, but you need to stay motivated.

A common mistake which I have recently made myself is taking too many breaks. So, you may have a rough day and want to take the day off. It’s ok and you can do that if you work from home. It’s important to stay refreshed and energized. But one day may turn into two, then three, then before you know it you are off half the week, your work and projects fall apart and you feel lost. This is why I haven’t posted here in a month – I temporarily became focused on other things and one day off turned into two, three and four – now a month later and here I am. So to avoid this, try to keep a good balance and avoid the online distractions that pull at you from every direction!

Online distractions can slowly destroy all that you are working so hard to achieve while working online. We’ve all succumbed to them at one time or another. Examples of some common online distracters:

  • Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and other Common Social Networking Websites
  • Youtube and other Streaming Online Television Watching
  • Searching around, getting lost in cyberspace and losing track of your focus

To stay motivated with your work, you have to stay focused on your current project. If you are working on something online but don’t know what your current project is – figure it out, define it, and tackle it. Each day, if you can figure out what your one major task is, then complete it – your motivation will be on the rise daily as you continually move forward.

Balancing out family, friends, life and your work online is a constant daily battle that each person must deal with. Chatting on social websites is fine as long as your work comes first and your motivation remains strong. Good luck and stay strong! If you fall away for a while like I did, just get yourself back into the game and keep moving forward!
