How to clean marinara sauce from a carpet

Probably one of the worst things you can drop on your carpet is something that has tomato in it. Tomatoes stain any surface so easily and are so pigmented that the removal can get pretty hard. But it’s not impossible. You have two choices – reach out to a cleaning company like or try cleaning the mess on your own.

What you need?

  • Spoon/ a knife
  • An empty spray bottle
  • Water
  • A white cloth
  • Dish liquid soap
  • White vinegar
  • Something heavy

What does the process include?

With the help of the spoon/ knife, you will scrape as much of the sauce as possible.
Then mix 1 quart of water (cold), 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 1 teaspoon non-bleach dish liquid in the spray bottle. Then spray the stain and blot using the white cloth. Keep blotting with the cloth until the carpet no longer transfers the color of the stain (use clean parts of the cloth each blot).
Get another spray bottle and fill it with water. Spray the stain and blot with another white towel until the cleaning mixture is gone.
The next thing you want to do is grab another cloth, put it on top of the stain and place something heavy on it.
Let that stay there for a few hours (this way the towels will soak up the rest).
Once you remove the cloth and the weights make sure you let the spot dry some more. End the process with vacuuming the area once it’s dry.
