Honest Marketing Movement And Facebook Apps
Posted on 19. Nov, 2008 by TheDavinator in Honest Marketing Methods

Hey guys, today I thought I would query Holly’s readers to get some of their opinions on an idea I’ve been mulling over in my head for a day or two. The topic at hand today is on Facebook Apps and the spread of the Honest Marketing Movement, and also, how each Honest Marketing Movement member may benefit from the traffic that may be generated through the use of the Facebook Application.
Up to this point I’ve been thinking along the lines of having a Facebook application designed to pull in random links to most recent posts from any of the blogs on the network. This way, each member could enjoy some traffic from directly within the application.
But, the idea has to go much further than that. For a Facebook App to catch on, and start being spread among thousands of users the application must be of some type of benefit for people, and also, be created so users would want to invite their friends to use the application. This way The Honest Marketing Movement could be spread faster and also each member actively posting on their blogs will benefit from the traffic.
Once I get what seems to be a feasible and realistic idea for the application it would have to be put up on Scriptlance or Elance for programmers to bid on designing the app, since I really don’t have programming skills myself.
First off, what do you guys think of this idea, and secondly, what type of ideas do you think could make such an Facebook Application beneficial to users of Facebook?
Any and all responses are completely welcome. Hopefully with a great enough idea something like this could take off nicely and each member will benefit from traffic and hopefully a few sales from their blogs on the network.
Any ideas?
Thanx for reading…cheers
Davin

Hi Davin,
I think it is a great idea. As with any social marketing as long as you do it the right way it will bring you traffic right? I have been trying to spread the word about the Honest Marketing Movement. I put it in most of my lenses and I also do personal invitations by email to some marketers whom I feel would truly fit in well with our family here.
I am really just beginning to utilize facebook for work, myself. I have quite a few friends there and I think it would make it easier for them to get involved if I had more than just a personal invite and a link. An application would definitely be more professional and give more credibility to the movement.
Many continued blessings,

Hi Davin,
I have been working with apps for a couple months. The easiest way I a found so far was with Ning, there are some flaws but not many, can only do music, pic, and video.
The app has to have a purpose or humor, in my opinion, as least that it what has worked so far for me.
If the honestmarketingmovement could find a cause to contribute to, then that would be a great way to get people to use it. With need of course they need to join the social network tha would redirect them to honest marketing.
How about a app to help end poverty, debt relief. Send your friends some debt relief? Just bouncing stuff. If I think of anything I will let you know:)

Yeah, thanx for the comment Lisa Jo. I certainly think the idea is there and I know some of these apps can sometimes get very popular. Especially if you happen to be in a gaming or poker niche. So this is definitely a bit different. Just need to think of a good idea to make it somehow unique and beneficial for people. Got the thinking cap on…
Thanx again Lisa Jo

Hi Davin,
How about an Honesty Rating app. You let people rate how honest they think you are and the app produces a description of you based on the current average rating.
e.g.
Davin is so honest he asks Google’s permission before launching a new website.
OR
Mark is so dishonest Black Hats run for cover when they see him coming.
Of course they would need to be more generally appealing to be viral.
Mark.

Hey, not a bad idea at all Mark. It certainly does tie into it, doesn’t it? It’s certainly a good one to consider. Thanx for that Mark!
Cheers

Wow I’m late on seeing this post. Since arriving back in the US I have never yet caught up – Thanksgiving, emails, freelance work, submissions, keeping up with my niche blogs … and now Davin has a new idea. HELP!!!
No, just kidding. I think its a great idea. I would need to give it more thought. I had been starting to get more familiar with Facebook for a bit but I need to dip my toes back into the water. These days there just doesn’t seem to be anything that I haven’t “fallen behind” on. Let me catch up (knock on wood) and then I’ll let you know if I think of anything.
