Genesis & the Move Commences
Posted by Holly in Blunt Honesty
Yesterday was day 1 in our move to a new subdivision. My friend was came over and helped me pack. It was such a big ordeal and so much more work than I had ever imagined!
I have moved so many times in my life, but never remember doing this much work!
Josh was really good and enjoyed helping by dragging big tupperware containers out to the truck (Josh’s principal popped over and she insisted that we fill up her truck and drop some stuff off). So, she ran through my house like super woman and within two minutes her truck was loaded and we were off.
Later on, I went back and filled my car up and moved more stuff over with Josh. Then, I made my bed at the new home and made Josh’s bed. I read online that the very first thing you are supposed to do at a new place is make the bed so you feel at home!
It worked.
In an hour or two the moving will commence again and today my friend’s husband will move all my furniture (office furniture, desks and a small couch). Then we will be settled in a little. The owner of the large home I was renting will come over sometime today while I am moving. I should put a poll on here to see if you guys think she will give me a deposit back. I looked through the lease and found nothing about safety and in the situation of a break in. I paid her over $3000 dollars for a deposit. We’ll see what happens.
So, after arriving at our new home, I looked over to see a very large and friendly smile from my neighbor. The people were beaming, and seemed very friendly. I said “Sawadee Kah” to them and they said it back, but something told me they were not thai. It turns out they were actually from the Philippines, lived in Africa for 14 years and moved here to work as missionaries (one month ago). They are most definitely the friendliest neighbors I have ever had in my entire life. I have a question for any readers – does anyone have any interesting experiences with neighbors? Good or bad?
I spoke with them for an hour last night, and they also have two kids. I don’t want to disclose all their personal details – but one thing really stood out about this family – their NAMES. Each person had such a powerful name – Genesis is the name of the father. Josiah is his son. I’ve never met anyone with the name Genesis – I found that to be neat (but I guess I am easily amused!) lol.
A lot of stuff has been happening, but I will keep posting on here. My wonderful neighbors are letting me use their wireless network connection as I wait for an Internet Connection to be setup. Take care everyone!

Oh Holly I’m so glad to hear this. If your alarm goes off now, I’m sure those neighbors will come running! But get the dogs too…just in case they’re not home!
Good neighbors are sooooo hard to find but if you are neighborly to each other in the beginning it mkes for a much more peaceful life.
I have neighbors who are from El Salvadore. They have two kids that live at home who speak English but the parents do not. We communicate through their children. It was awkward at first but we’ve gotten used to it. I do a lot of cooking so I can take pictures for my website so a lot of times I will take some to them since my kids are grown and it is just me and my husband at home now. They are wonderful people. If we go anywhere, they watch over the houseand cats for us. It’s great!

Thanks Kathy and JK!
I am definitely grateful for these people.
I’m even using their wireless connection right now as I wait for my internet to be setup!
They were SO incredibly friendly. They even watched Josh as I went back for more stuff yesterday. (I would normally NEVER do that and have never, but they were amazing and Josh immediately loved them all). And, after doing all the moving and finally being finished (in 100 degree weather too) – my beautiful friendly neighbor walked in my door with bowls of food. She made us lunch!!! It was the best thing I have eaten in my life! I was very hungry from the work of moving in the heat! So, it was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me (us).

This is great news Holly. I am so happy to hear that things are looking up for you. I wrote you a message on your myspace as I was very concerned with your previous post. However, it sounds like things are turning around and I am sure they will be better than they were before. Thanks for keeping us updated!
