Emotions Running High on Twitter

As most of you know, “Informercial King” Billy Mays was found unresponsive the morning of June 28, 2009 and passed away in his Florida home. It was a shock to the world, as his death was one of several celebrity deaths in the recent weeks. His voice, energy and personality will be left imprinted in the minds and hearts of his fans and followers.
Sometimes we read about deaths and tragedies across the globe, but don’t truly understand what the family members and friends are going through. Twitter has become more than a social network to help Internet Marketers keep in touch with clients. For the 22-year-old son of Billy Mays, he is using Twitter to share what he is going through at this time, with the loss of his father. It seems to me that he is using it as a support system, which is so greatly needed for him at this time.
Personally, I’m a fan of Billy Mays and my four-year-old son loves to impersonate him – and is so drawn in by his high energy. He has a lot of fans.
Shortly after hearing of his father’s death, his son Billy, posted this update on Twitter: “My dad didn’t wake up this morning.. I’m sure you’ll all hear about it. It hasn’t yet hit me but it’s about to.” Since that time, every few hours or so he has posted updates on how he is feeling and what he is going through. In his own words, “Thank you all for the continued support. You guys are like a constant hug whenever I need one.” Twitter has become an extended family – offering support when he needs it most.
If you would like to offer a note of support, visit his page here: http://twitter.com/youngbillymays – he says that he reads all messages he receives.

Hi Holly
I didn’t realize how widespread Twitter really was. Read the comments and it was nice to see how much support there was for young Billy.
I first seen Billy Mays (may he rest in peace) when I arrived here almost five years ago and he used to enthrall me. I loved the way he put products across and of course I did buy many of them.
Back in Ireland we used to have characters like Billy who would come to the local town markets and from the back of a truck would do their “pitch” and were so entertaining.
Billy was the closest to that here.
I guess we can all imagine him doing his “pitch” at the Pearly Gates on St.Peter. A lovable character gone but not forgotten.
God Bless Him

Hi Tom! I agree – and I also didn’t realize what an impact using Twitter can have on your life. I didn’t know it has been used by people in such times of need – and how supportive people can be. I’m glad Twitter was created – as it is bringing people together – even if it is on a virtual plane – it is a good thing.
