Free Blog Word Processing Software- MUST-HAVE

Improve your productivity by using a blog-editing program. If you are a blog-owner (whether the platform is based on Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, or any other platform) - you know that the features when writing or editing posts are generally limited. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have all of the capabilities you’d have with Microsoft Word, while posting?

Thankfully, there is an awesome free blog word processor and blog-editing program - it is Windows Live Writer. You just download it to your computer, install it and start-using it right away. In fact, I am writing this post on Windows Live Writer right now!

After the download of the software, you will be asked if you have a blog already (or if you would like to create one). I already have a wordpress site (actually quite a few), so I enter in the blog URL: http://www.honestholly.com and I insert in my blog username and password. The Windows Live Writer software then tests out the login credentials and if all is well (which it was) - then blogging can begin immediately. What this means, is that you can start using the simple, fast-loading interface to begin posting to your site. When your post is ready, just click PUBLISH and that’s it. No need to even login to your actual blog!

My Personal Opinion on Windows Live Writer: So far so good! I couldn’t be happier! This is exactly what I was looking for. The reason this software is idea for me is this:

  1. It’s fast-loading (my computer has quite a few large files and programs on it that slow down my productivity, slow down my computer)
  2. No need to open up Microsoft Word, then copy and paste my post into my blog
  3. I can manage ALL OF MY WEBSITES in one place, making it really easy to post to any/all of them anytime I like (without wasting time logging into each one)
  4. I love all the advanced features - allowing me to insert maps, tables, pictures, videos, tags (plus there are a ton of plugins if I want more features as well)
  5. I love the interface because I can see my entire post (all the text) on one page. My problem with wordpress (when posting) is that I can hardly see what I am typing because after one or two paragraphs the box ends and I have to keep scrolling
  6. I can post on here when I am offline. I love that because I can get easily distracted when online. This way, I can write my post without even browsing the web.
  7. Drafts can be saved to the web (no need to save all the files to my computer)
  8. It’s totally FREE - gotta love that!

Thanks for this one Holly, good find! Do you if it supports the scheduled posting in Wordpress? Or if I can somehow continue to use scheduled posting with this tool?

I’ll have a look and see what it can do, but it looks marvelous!

    thanks

    Hi Joe,
I am glad you found this useful. It definitely allows Scheduled Posting. When you are typing a post, there is a tab that says VIEW - then click on PROPERTIES and you will see all the extras for your post (below the text box area). You can schedule post date, post slug, the category you want it posted to and keywords, etc. ;) It is awesome and it has saved me time - I’m posting a lot more today than I’ve ever posted before! LOL..it’s a must-have - so far so good! Let me know how you like it!

sounds good, I have some SEO and extra plugins for my post, is this still good for SEO?

thanks Holly, I’ll let you know how it works out for me

    Hi Joe,
I have the same concern about SEO - and that is the ONLY thing that you must do manually. For me, I’ve been using the software to make my posts (keywords may be added no problem) and then later I go back in and create my custom title, description - for SEO. There might be a plugin that could do this - but overall I don’t mind because it’s saving me a lot of time and I have no distractions this way! :)

by SEO I meant things like meta tags and such, as I see keywords and tags are included.

cool, I posted my last post before refreshing and seeing your last answer, that’s what I was planning on doing. Makes sense, and I like the interface.

I’ll be posting about your post on my blog.

Thanx Holly, this looks great. I’m installing right now. I’ll also get back to you in a little bit about your emails. I can’t believe how late I slept today. I never even woke up until 5 P.M!! I think everything must have caught up to me, and needed the rest. It looks like I’ll be doing quite a lot of catching up over the next couple days. Oh and you’ve been Dugg miss!

    Talk later,
    Davin
