Best Blogs to Follow in 2010

Posted on 26. Jan, 2010 by Holly in I Recommend

If you are looking for more useful and amazing blogs to learn from in 2010 and beyond, I have compiled a short list of ones that I personally recommend. I started with the most fun blog first, one which you can go to if you need a good laugh. From there the blogs are on topics related to Internet Marketing, Social Media, Copywriting, Blogging and Productivity. If you have a few blogs that you really like, please post them in the comments section below – thanks!

Best Blog for Break Times and for a Good Laugh

The Improv Everywhere blog is one which I turn to for an uplifting moment when the day draws on and on and I need a good laugh. It involves groups of people who stage or cause a scene in public to bring laughter or joy to those around. The events are humorous and break up the monotony of the day to day life people may fall into. If you are going to check it out, I recommend you first watch these two videos here: Frozen at Grand Central Station and Food Court Musical – they are my favorites!

Best Blog about how to Blog for a Living

David Risley’s blog is one which I have recommended many times for those who are interested in becoming professional bloggers. He incorporates Internet Marketing techniques with blogging, and teaches others how to create an ethical process to make a great living using those methods. He is direct and really tells it like it is. He is a WYSIWYG guy. :) I recommend downloading his free Six Figure Blogger Blueprint, an e-book which really inspired me to change my blogging ways and turn it into something more than just a hobby, but another income stream.

My Favorite Resource on Copywriting

Copyblogger is my favorite resource for tips and information on copywriting. Whether you need to write a catchy headline, or work on improving your writing skills, this blog offers an array of tools and tips for you. The website also offers blogging and marketing tips, in addition to the copywriting resources.

Best Web Design Blog with Freebies and Tips

One of my favorite blogs on web design is Smashing Magazine. The blog always has the absolute best free downloads for free fonts, free graphics, free wordpress themes and excellent tutorials. You can check out all their free downloads here.

Real Advice & Tips from a Down-to-Earth Entrepreneur

Yaro Starak’s blog, Entrepreneur’s Journey, is an excellent resource for Internet Marketers who need some advice from a guy whose become successful in that field. He shares how he makes money from the Internet, while taking his laptop and traveling the world as well. He has a free report, the Blog Master’s Blueprint, that you can download if you want to learn more about how he makes money online.

Best Blog on Simplicity and Productivity

Zen Habits is a blog created by Leo Babauta, a writer living in Guam with six kids and a whole lot of blog followers. His writing on simplicity, clearing the clutter of daily lives and finding happiness – has touched many people. He has several published books and his insight is very useful in everyday life.

My Favorite Social Media Blog

Mashable is of course my favorite resource for social media updates and anything related to technology, new iphone applications, Wordpress, Facebook and any other social media websites, tools and related software.

Best Creative Non-Blog that I Like

I realize it makes no sense that I am adding this to a list of my favorite blogs, as it technically is not a blog – but my favorite creative site is Instructables. I had to add this here as I really like this site, and want to share the awesome resource with my readers. Like I said, it’s not a blog, but a website consisting of user-submitted content and step-by-step guides on how to make things. The instructable topics include everything from science, technology, creating your own solar panels, to baking, sewing or creating your own homemade cleaning supplies or toys. Some examples of instructables are: how to make your own snuggie, how to make a lightbulb greenhouse or an Ikea Hack to create a bookshelf bench.

Hey Holly, thanks for putting this awesome list together. I love lists so I especially enjoyed this post. I have been mulling over starting a personal blog for some time so these are really good resources to draw from for me personally. I’ve had many little niche blogs over the years but never anything I’ve added content to on a regular basis.

I’m really set on getting away from the whole mini-site business model – and trust me I have a bunch of those things and they have been good to me but it’s time to move forward with more transparency. I have decent sized 5 digit opt-in list that I would love to convert to readers so I can interact with everyone. I know sometimes it feels so impersonal to receive email after email from someone and never have anywhere to go other than a support email to respond back. So I really look forward to any more tips and resources you will be posting about in the future.

The Improv Everywhere site is so hilarious!! The people in the food court musical were really looking on with shock and amazement. And the janitor was really funny – when he ended performing he went back to sweeping and people were trying to figure out what just happened. I really enjoyed it. Anyway, that was a good break – I have been up working since 5am because I am so far behind. Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry – the janitor in that one was my absolute favorite! He was so funny and the people were so shocked! :) And, onto other things – I will email you now before I take josh to Kaykido (don’t know how to spell that) regarding the Haiti stuff.

I like the way you put the lists in categories. That makes it the list even more helpful. I made a list but I didn’t use topics….

    I just learned from you.

An interesting blog you have here. And thanks for mentioning the Instructables website – a useful resource. Being used to static websites myself rather than blogs, the Instructables looks like a blog to me. I’m starting to wonder if I really know the difference between the two.
