Since Holly has a toothache while visiting her brother in Wisconsin I thought a little cheer would lighten things up:
A woman who lives in Mississippi, was talking
with her four year old son.
He asked her why all their relatives in
Wisconsin talk funny and sound like their
noses are plugged up.
"They think we have an accent," she replied.
"But they have an accent, right? They talk funny!"
he stated.
"Everybody talks in different ways" she tried to
explain. "To them, we sound like we talk very
slow and all our words are d-r-a-w-n out."
His eyes got big, and he whispered seriously,

"Oh, no. You mean they hear funny too?"
PS: I normally would not post jokes on an unrelated blog .

Both my sister and mother-in -law lost all their pictures in a fire several years ago.Had there been such a site 25/35/60 years ago perhaps that extra loss would not have been so emotionally draining. This wasn't said as a 'downer' but rather a suggestion for backing up important files and photos offsite, such as the aforementioned one or similar servers like Google Cloud

Tom - Happy #65!!! and I am SO with you on not being money motivated. Interestingly, I had a conversation with one of my bosses recently where I mentioned that and he said, "I can understand not being motivated by money, but think about your retirement..." and then all this conversation took place after talking about PICTURES...LOL

Holly - your comment about dying in your sleep reminded me of an old funny that I used to want as a bumper sticker. You may have heard it, but here it is anyway...

"I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather and not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car."

Anna that is really funny you are anti-aging! I've never heard anyone say that before. I'm not sure how I feel about that. :) My main concerns are when I am elderly. I'm hoping I stay healthy and pass away in my sleep or something like that. Too many people in my family have had heart attacks and strokes and I wouldn't want that as I don't want anyone to have to take care of me. Besides that - I am not too concerned about aging - but it is just strange at times when "time flies" and years have passed so quickly. For me personally, the last 10 years have not quickly passed - I've filled them with so much activity, moving, traveling and adventures. I think I did enough to satisfy my need to be wild and dangerous - which is ideal since I have a child now and I am stable and enjoy safety! :) You know what I'm talking about because you did a lot of dangerous traveling and hitchhiking. :)

So Tom - thank you again for your comment and I always like hearing your thoughts. You have a great attitude about life. I hope you have a wonderful Birthday and weekend!

Hi Guys
This has turned into a very enjoyable thread and I am glad I logged in again to read it.
Firstly Dustin, dreams can be good and we all daydream as well and that can be good also. This is where a lot of new ideas originate.
One thing an old Priest back in Ireland used to preach regularly, "There are no pockets in a shroud"! You can't take it with you.
When your time comes you go as you entered, naked and without earthly goods.
Funny enough over the past 40 years when I was in Sales and Marketing Management, my bosses always assumed that all their people were motivated by money and when I told them I was not, they thought I was nuts. Satisfaction and enjoyment in what I do and the love of my family is my main motivation coming next to loving God.
I think Holly you made a comment in another thread I read where you said you liked to spend money so that you and Josh can enjoy life today and this is very true. Spend a little and save a little. I still do the lottery as well LOL.
You read of people who hoard money and end up dying miserable and lonely old bats!
It is so funny also listening to you guys talking about aging, with Holly only 26, Dustin also a young guy and I am not sure about Anna, but still a young one against me.
I am celebrating my 65th birthday today and am in great health and enjoying my new life here in the "Land of Opportunity" setting up a new business. I always say you are as young as you feel and I still feel young.
An enjoyable session and I wish you all a very enjoyable weekend.
May your God be with you.
Tom
PS. Anna, if you discover a youth recovery serum, let me know..haha..

Not to get too evangelical or theorize too much that I know the mind of God, but in the aftermath of the dream (ie - real life) one of the things I thought about was that part of the preparation of the church to be ready for the return of Christ is having your heart in the right place...one of the things that upset me about the dream was that the hearts of the people around me were not. They were not "prepared for the bridegroom." - It was money that was in their hearts...not a love for Christ - which to me meant that they were not prepared, possibly not truly saved.

Do share your dream(s), sometime, Holly! I am fascinated by dreams and things dealing with end-times. Who cares of it's long? lol

Anna - an interesting comment you made, "Unfortunately, the current state of society is bait for such dreams." - too true. Interestingly, I had this dream about 6 or 7 years ago. Not to say that the state of society has changed much, but the economy sure has! In the dream, they didn't think they were going to be able to take their possessions with them; they just wanted to buy them and have them (if even just a few days) and not be responsible for paying their debts. I guess it was kind of a dream about covetousness, irresponsibility, and materialism as much as it was evangelism.

Too bad you don't prevent aging, Anna! I was beginning to hope that by being your friends, we could all remain young forever! LOL! I almost always find it surprising when my wife sees a picture of me from back when we first got married and she says, "You look so young there!" I think, "Do I look old now?" I don't think I look old. I don't think I look like I've aged since then! Ok...I gained some weight...but I'm still YOUNG!!!

Its a great dream Dustin! I love it! It even as a moral. Unfortunately, the current state of society is bait for such dreams.

But ... did they think they were going to be able to take their jewelry and electronics with them?

In regards to aging, I'm Anti-Aging. I don't mean that I prevent aging, I mean I'm against it! Like some people are anti-war or anti-anything, I'm anti-aging. I don't believe in it, I don't agree with it, and I don't want anything to do with it! Well, aging is okay till you are in your mid-20s I suppose but then, that's enough.

Wow Dustin thanks for sharing that dream - it was very vivid and detailed. Incredible! I don't think you need to go to an appointment at a mental clinic - and I've had dreams about the end times and stuff straight out of the book of Revelation too. The dreams I had were so detailed and not like any dreams I've had before. I'll have to share that another time though (it is very long). If I have something like that I write it down right away. :) If you don't, you should do the same. It's also ok that you jump from topic to topic because that's what I do all the time on here! I always try to make it personal which can be a stretch sometimes when I'm writing about internet marketing! :) lol.

About your dream - it really got me thinking. I hope that would not happen if it were the end of our days here. The last thing I would do is go shopping or stealing things to get stuff! :) But who knows...maybe people would do that. Anyway, your dreams are very interesting Dustin - thank you for sharing it!!!!

I'll go ahead and share, but I will add two disclaimers at the beginning -

Disclaimer 1: Understand that my thinking about this dream was not directly related to you talking about not saving...if have a mind like an antelope sometimes racing from one end of the logic spectrum to the other. This is not meant to criticize your styles or methods...somehow my mind just made the leap.

Disclaimer 2 (for the readers): Because of my personal religious views, the posting of my dream may sound evangelical in nature. While I do not wish to offend anyone, I will not apologize for my beliefs nor the fact that I had this dream! lol

First let me preface this by saying in case any readers are not familiar with the term "rapture" as it pertains to the Christian church, the basic concept is that Christ will return for His church one day. Some believe that it will be prior to the "tribulation" prophesied in the Bible and others believe it will be in the middle of or at the end of said tribulation. The dream I had was based on the concept of a "pre-tribulation" rapture.

Setting: a few short days before the rapture. Although the Bible says that no one knows the hour when Christ will return, in my dream we as Christians somehow had knowledge that He was returning...very soon...as in the next few days. I don't know how we knew, but we knew. I found myself standing in the midst of CHRISTIANS running around like crazy...not trying to share the gospel...not trying to inform others of the soon return of Christ...but SPENDING. In this dream, I saw Christians coming out of stores with VERY expensive items...electronics, jewelry, toys...you name it.

Before long I found myself standing in a pile of receipts. I began looking at the receipts and seeing the obscene amount of money that people were spending. I couldn't believe my eyes. Then I came to a realization. People were maxing out their credit cards...pushing every line of credit to the limit...spending every last cent that they had.

Why?

Because they figured with the rapture only a few days away...they would never have to pay it off. They figured that they would be raptured away and would never have to repay their debts. This upset me, but not nearly as much as realizing that they were doing so INSTEAD of trying to help others reach salvation. 1 Timothy 6:10 says "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (NIV) - these Christians were allowing their love of money and their covetous nature to allow them to focus on spending instead of reaching out to others.

I became very angry...I began to yell:

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT THE KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS' RETURN IS A GIFT? DON'T YOU REALIZE WE CAN BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND SEEING PEOPLE COME INTO SALVATION? INSTEAD, YOU WASTE YOUR TIME SPENDING MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE RACKING UP DEBT YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PAY???"

At that point I began to weep because there were so many who would not be saved because Christians were ignoring the truth.

And then...I woke. And I almost went to Walmart to start evangelizing!

So...yeah...there it is, lol. Not exactly related to saving or taking pictures every day, but it's what came to my mind at some point in this discussion. Anyone think I'm due for an appointment at the mental health clinic now? LOL

I’ll go ahead and share, but I will add two disclaimers at the beginning –

Disclaimer 1: Understand that my thinking about this dream was not directly related to you talking about not saving…if have a mind like an antelope sometimes racing from one end of the logic spectrum to the other. This is not meant to criticize your styles or methods…somehow my mind just made the leap.

Disclaimer 2 (for the readers): Because of my personal religious views, the posting of my dream may sound evangelical in nature. While I do not wish to offend anyone, I will not apologize for my beliefs nor the fact that I had this dream! lol

First let me preface this by saying in case any readers are not familiar with the term “rapture” as it pertains to the Christian church, the basic concept is that Christ will return for His church one day. Some believe that it will be prior to the “tribulation” prophesied in the Bible and others believe it will be in the middle of or at the end of said tribulation. The dream I had was based on the concept of a “pre-tribulation” rapture.

Setting: a few short days before the rapture. Although the Bible says that no one knows the hour when Christ will return, in my dream we as Christians somehow had knowledge that He was returning…very soon…as in the next few days. I don’t know how we knew, but we knew. I found myself standing in the midst of CHRISTIANS running around like crazy…not trying to share the gospel…not trying to inform others of the soon return of Christ…but SPENDING. In this dream, I saw Christians coming out of stores with VERY expensive items…electronics, jewelry, toys…you name it.

Before long I found myself standing in a pile of receipts. I began looking at the receipts and seeing the obscene amount of money that people were spending. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Then I came to a realization. People were maxing out their credit cards…pushing every line of credit to the limit…spending every last cent that they had.

Why?

Because they figured with the rapture only a few days away…they would never have to pay it off. They figured that they would be raptured away and would never have to repay their debts. This upset me, but not nearly as much as realizing that they were doing so INSTEAD of trying to help others reach salvation. 1 Timothy 6:10 says “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” (NIV) – these Christians were allowing their love of money and their covetous nature to allow them to focus on spending instead of reaching out to others.

I became very angry…I began to yell:

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? DON’T YOU REALIZE THAT THE KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS’ RETURN IS A GIFT? DON’T YOU REALIZE WE CAN BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND SEEING PEOPLE COME INTO SALVATION? INSTEAD, YOU WASTE YOUR TIME SPENDING MONEY YOU DON’T HAVE RACKING UP DEBT YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PAY???”

At that point I began to weep because there were so many who would not be saved because Christians were ignoring the truth.

And then…I woke. And I almost went to Walmart to start evangelizing!

So…yeah…there it is, lol. Not exactly related to saving or taking pictures every day, but it’s what came to my mind at some point in this discussion. Anyone think I’m due for an appointment at the mental health clinic now? LOL

Hi Tom - Strangely, the desk really was that tidy that day. Right now though - it is not. I bought all these organizational things that are now cluttering up my desk and not serving the original purpose. :) I try to be really neat with the desk though or else it seems to drive me crazy and affect my ability to focus while working! Yes silly I know! So Tom, I Like your idea with the photos. I am trying to organize all of Josh's photos from when he was younger and a baby. I want to take them and make extreme close ups - then print them out and frame them. Hopefully it will look nice because the place we're living at is not that homey yet! Thanks for the ideas Tom!

I'm really not all that concerned about turning 30 - but it is hard for me to believe that I'm about to reach that point. But you're right...gotta LIVE! :) Reminds me of that song "We Live" by Superchick lol. If you haven't heard it, look it up...I bet you'd like it.

I also have a hard time grasping the concept of saving for retirement. I know it's something I "should" do...and one day I may very well regret that I haven't yet started...need to get my hind quarters in gear!

Your comment made me reflect on a dream I had once that had to do with spending money. I'll be happy to share sometime if you're interested but don't want to bore your readers with it LOL.

But don't apologize for rambling...rambling is fun, funny and part of what we all love about your blog!

Hi Holly
What a wonderful idea.
I remember when we were at school (a looong time ago), we could buy those little books to flick through and they were very popular at the time.
If we were to dedicate ourselves to do this on a regular basis, it would be incredible.
Actually, an idea..if you are like me and have a selection of old photo albums, it may be possible to extract photos and scan them and start making a list of photos of family to use in this system?
BTW, I had to go to look at Josh sleeping on you desk..that is sooo cute.
Also, do you "honestly" keep your desk that tidy..haha..
Have a great day
