Video CameraMost Internet Marketers are familiar with the Google Adsense program - but for those of you who aren’t - it’s a method of earning revenue by placing Pay Per Click ads on your website or blog. When someone clicks on an ad, you are paid. It could be a little or it could be a lot, depending on the circumstances, but it generally ranges from five cents up through several dollars per click (less common, but possible).

A relatively new feature of the Google Adsense program is Adsense for Videos.

There are two ways of utilizing this program:

1. Installing videos on your site which have Adsense ads embedded into them - people can watch the videos, and if they then click on on ad, you get paid. This has two advantages:

  • You can enrich your website with some color, entertainment, and helpful content, in the form of videos which are automatically selected based on your keywords and based on the content of your pages.
  • At the same time, you are adding monetization to your website. Video units come in several different shapes and sizes and you can place one unit on each page.

2. You can also sign up to be a YouTube partner and agree to allow Adsense Ads to play on your own videos which  you have uploaded onto your YouTube channel. In this case, you are giving the agreement for your videos to play on other people’s websites, with ads embedded.

However, you have to receive approval for this, and not everyone is automatically approved. Several factors are looked at in the approval process, including the size of your YouTube audience, the quality of your videos, how well you follow the rules, and even your country of residence.

But if you are approved for the program, there are two advantages:

  • You have a better chance of wider exposure for your videos, as they can be played automatically on related websites which are running Adsense for Videos.
  • You can share the revenue which is earned when people click on the ads within your videos.

To Apply to Play Adsense Videos on Your Website

Create a Google Adsense account if you don’t have one and then log on, at https://www.google.com/adsense

Click “Adsense Setup” and then “Video units” and follow the instructions.  As part of this you will need to integrate your Adsense account with your YouTube account.

To Apply for Your Videos to Appear in Adsense Video Units (with Ads on Them)

Visit:

http://www.youtube.com/partners

Then submit an application to become a partner.

If you get an automatic message saying that you are not likely to be accepted based on an automatic review of your account, my first guess would be that you probably don’t have enough videos playing on YouTube yet, and/or your videos don’t get enough views. There could be other reasons, but I might suggest you first get up and running as a YouTube publisher, and also make sure you follow the rules. (You could also look into this a bit more, to get more data on the acceptance criteria for different countries of residence, etc.)

So there you go. A new source of revenue, exposure, and content, both for webmasters and for YouTube videographers.

I’ve put Adsense for Videos to use on a few of my sites and I liked the results so far. They definitely add value, color, and animation - with a bit of extra monetization as well.

Yours,

Hey cool, that’s great Anna. I didn’t know about that. It’s been a while since I’ve even thought about Adsense to be honest with you. I’ll have to look into that a little further. Thanx again Anna.

How have you been anyway? Are you and your husband doing well?

    Talk soon Anna,

Thank you Miss Anna! I was just checking my email and was about to login to Google’s Adsense to set this up. You are awesome!

@ Davin - Hello there! Thanks for the comment. Yes my husband and I are doing great! I will leave soon to go see my family in America, but the last months here have been very good. How are you? How is your new blog doing?

@ Holly - Hi and your welcome! I hope it is helpful. I thought I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone - answer a question and update your blog. (Well, I actually don’t throw stones at birds, for the record.)

    Very useful information.:D

    I was just wondering.
There are videos on YouTube with Adsense at the bottom of the video box. Can I also get this even if I’m not a YouTube partner, but have a Google Adsense account?

Luigi, you have to have a YouTube account and sign up for partnership. Also, if you have just signed up and/or have not been very active on YouTube yet, it seems your chances of getting approved are not so good. It looks like you would need to not only be a member, but have some track record on YouTube as well.
